LET THEIR CONFIDENCE SHINE WHEN THEY LEARN THAT THEY CAN LEARN
Boost their confidence by unlocking their potential. Assessments indicating dyslexia or dyscalculia open up access to support.
WHAT I OFFER
As an experienced teacher and parent to two grown-up sons, I know the difference that holistic, personalised learning support can make to a child’s confidence if they are struggling in certain areas. A topic or subject that might seem daunting or cause feelings of uncertainty can become much easier and even enjoyable with the right tools and approach.
I provide both dyslexia and dyscalculia assessments.
- Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that can affect reading, writing and spelling.
- Dyscalculia is another learning difficulty that can affect numerical ability, understanding
AND number memory, as well as confidence and self-esteem. - During assessment, I may be asked to look at other learning difficulties too.
I largely work with children and their parents, but I also offer assessments for adults.
SO, WHY GET ASSESSED?
If an assessment indicates dyslexia, dyscalculia or a processing difficulty, reasonable adjustments can be made so that the child can receive more effective support. In such cases, I make comprehensive recommendations for each of my clients so they have a clear way forward. These assessment indications facilitate access to tools to help overcome blocks to learning. For example, this could be more time in exams, or further access to appropriate resources, whether delivered through school or homeschooling.
WHAT CAN THIS REALLY MEAN FOR MY CLIENTS?
- An increase in their self-confidence and natural abilities when they embark on this new, fresh adventure into learning.
- Relief once they finally understand their difficulty.
- Clarity, reassurance and direction once they know the best way to fulfil their potential.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO BEAR IN MIND?
- Assessments are now valid for life, so earlier diagnoses allow children to receive support sooner. There are no other future comprehensive assessment costs, aside from any internal re-evaluation at school during year 9 for examination purposes.
- Assessments are appropriate for anyone over the age of 7 years, including adults. Although I work with plenty of children and their families, I also offer assessments for adults – and the process is similar.
- It’s also well worth knowing that a diagnosis of some learning difficulties may permit eligible students to apply for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). DSA provides financial help for higher education students aged 16+, including mature students.
FINAL THOUGHTS

Additionally, I’m grateful to have had some lovely client feedback.
Here is a selection of the reviews and kind words that I’ve received from my clients and their families:
“My very bright daughter had struggled with reading from an early age. As we have a lot of dyslexia in the family I asked for dyslexia screening at all 3 schools she attended from primary to secondary and was repeatedly told she was not dyslexic by teachers and she was not eligible for testing.
She did badly in her GCSE’s despite working incredibly hard. Frances was highly recommended to me by a number of friends whose children she had helped. I found Frances to be caring and kind with sensitivity and empathy to my daughter’s needs. She assessed my daughter for dyslexia and ADHD and wrote a comprehensive report which gave her access at her sixth form college to have help with A Levels studies and special exam conditions.
For my daughter, understanding that there is nothing wrong with her and simply that her brain works in a different way was transformative. She was able to get her confidence back and at the end of the academic year got 3 A grades in her A level mocks. Frances also helped tutor her in her maths GCSE retake and was able to teach her in a way that works for students with some element of dyscalculia. I cannot recommend her more highly.”
“When I first contacted Frances I was very impressed by her openness and efficiency. She listened carefully when I described our family’s experience, and very importantly was non judgmental. Frances explained clearly what our options were and once we had decided on taking the dyslexia assessment, she carried this out not just with professionalism but also with huge kindness to our daughter.
Frances has really helped our family gain an understanding and knowledge about an area we did not know much about. Throughout the time of working with her, we have been impressed by her understanding of neuro – divergent families and her kindness to us and our daughter. She has never once made us feel silly or insignificant, which is so valuable. My neuro – divergent daughter really enjoys going to see Frances which says it all!”
